Job Description:

The Child Care Assistant supports the lead teacher or childcare provider in creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for children. This role involves helping with daily activities, supervising children, and promoting their social, emotional, and physical development.

Key Responsibilities
Assist in supervising children during indoor and outdoor activities
Help plan and set up age-appropriate learning and play activities
Support children with daily routines such as meals, naps, toileting, and hygiene
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom or care environment
Observe children’s behavior and report concerns to the lead teacher or supervisor
Encourage positive behavior and help resolve minor conflicts.
Assist with record-keeping, attendance, and activity documentation
Follow all childcare center policies, safety procedures, and licensing regulations

Qualifications & Skills
High school diploma or equivalent (required)
Coursework or certification in early childhood education (preferred)
Experience working with children (preferred, but not always required)
Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in working with children
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Ability to follow instructions and take initiative when needed
Physical ability to lift, stand, and engage actively with children

Working Conditions
May involve standing, bending, and lifting children or supplies
Work may be part-time or full-time, depending on the center’s needs
