Early Head Start Associate Teacher

Job Description:

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. An associate’s degree (AA) in Early Childhood Education or child development or the equivalent; or a valid CDA credential.
2. Prior experience with Infant and Toddlers in an Early Head Start setting is preferred.
3. Ability to work in cooperative and collegial manner with the Early Head Start co-teacher, families, Early Head Start partners, staff and community members.
4. CPR/AED and First Aid Certified and TB test.
5. Responsibility of employee to obtain and maintain all training(s), certificate(s), approval(s), etc. and provide documentation to the business office before the expiration date of said document(s).
6. Must have regular and reliable job attendance, performance, and the physical ability to do this job.
7. Able to lift up to 50 pounds and work at the physical level with infants and toddlers.
8. Required to have a physical presence at the designated job site each scheduled work day.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Ability to use computers, software and other current technology.
2. Effective written and oral communication skills with children, families and other program staff including parent/family communications and program data reports.
3. Effective organizational skills.
4. Maintain professional atmosphere and demeanor in the classroom, acting at all times as a representative of Early Head Start and the ISD.
5. Complete reports and other record keeping activities accurately and timely as prescribed by the program
6. Attend and engage in continuous professional development and coaching.
7. Implement high quality developmentally appropriate practices as outlined by the Head Start Program Performance Standards. https://eclkc.ohs.acf.hhs.gov/policy/45-cfr-chap-xiii

9. Follow the State of Michigan’s licensing rules and requirements for child care centers or the Head Start Program Performance Standards, whichever rule is more stringent. https://www.michigan.gov/documents/lara/BCAL_PUB_8_3_16_523999_7.pdf
10. Ability to work cooperatively as a part of a team, including co-teaching with the Lead Teacher and other staff to coordinate and plan curriculum and activities.
11. Actively supervise and monitor safety of children during all parts of the day.
12. Engage in activities with children at their physical level.
13. Have the ability to care for infants and toddlers (diapering, bottle feeding, etc.)
14. Help to provide a warm, nurturing environment for infants and toddlers.
15. Create an overall supportive, nurturing, strength based, inclusive environment.
16. Maintain student and program confidentiality.
17. Implement High Scope and Conscious Discipline to fidelity.
18. Engage families in their child’s education through events, conferences, home visits, volunteer opportunities and community resources.
19. Assisting the lead teacher in completing classroom requirements.
20. Perform other duties as assigned by the St. Joseph County ISD administrators.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: To be determined based on Non-Union conditions of employment. Grant year from March to February. 240 days, 8 hours per day
