Job Description:

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Master’s Degree in Speech/Language Pathology.

2. Certificate of Clinical Competency or eligibility for Clinical Fellowship Year.

3. Responsibility of employee to obtain and maintain all training(s), certificate(s), approval(s), etc. and provide documentation to the business office before expiration date of said document(s).

4. Must be able to lift 30 pounds.

5. Required to have a physical presence at the designated job site each scheduled work day.

6. Must have regular and reliable job attendance, performance, and the physical ability to do the job.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Identify and diagnose speech and language impairments of eligible persons in the assigned service area.

2. Provide diagnostic information to committees involved in the placement of students.

3. Make appropriate referrals when additional services are needed within the community.

4. On a continuous basis, provide information concerning speech and language to other professionals and to parents/providers.

5. Provide ongoing training and coaching support to eligible families and early intervention team.

6. Complete home visits within the community.

7. Using the primary service provider model based on family routines, confer and work with parents/providers to implement the individual family service plan.

8. Maintain individual records on every child being served which includes appropriate and necessary information.

9. Develop and maintain an appropriate schedule in the current system used by the ISD.

10. Complete required forms pursuant to the Special Education code, such as IEP’s, MET’s, evaluations, re-evaluations, and IFSP’s, within the appropriate time frame.

11. Participate in the development and planning of writing IFSP outcomes.

12. Demonstrate effective written communication skills: including parent/family communications and child data and reports.

13. Demonstrate effective oral communication and relationships with children, families, providers and other program staff.

14. Demonstrate effective organizational skills.

15. Attend and engage in continuous professional development through in-service attendance, conference attendance and reading professional literature.

16. Attend and engage in weekly team meetings with the trans disciplinary team to support whole child developmental needs as identified in the IFSP.

17. Implement with fidelity high quality practices (developmentally appropriate, evidence/research based).

18. Demonstrate ability to work in a team setting.

19. Create an overall supportive, nurturing, strength-based atmosphere using trans disciplinary practices.

20. Perform oral-motor examinations when appropriate.

21. Order appropriate materials and testing kits to meet the needs of children on the caseload.

22. Provide own transportation.

23. Maintain child/family confidentiality.

24. Complete other duties as assigned by the St. Joseph County ISD Administration.

REPORTS TO: Early Childhood/K-12 Special Education Supervisor

PERFORMANCE APPRAISALS: Early Childhood/K12 Special Education Supervisor

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary for this position is based on the IEA Master Agreement and will align to the requirements of Early On. Services must be provided year-round with a gap in scheduled service no longer than two weeks in length.
