Job Description:

The Lead Teacher/Program Director of the Early Learning Center at North Central Michigan College is a visionary leader and educator responsible for the overall management and successful implementation of our Reggio-inspired early education experience.

The Lead Teacher/Program Director will champion our core values, mission, and philosophy to create an inclusive and nurturing learning environment where children are empowered to explore, question, collaborate, and construct knowledge with enthusiasm and confidence.

The Lead Teacher/Program Director of the Early Learning Center will play a pivotal role in nurturing the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical well-being of young learners and shaping their futures as inquisitive thinkers and lifelong learners in our secure and inclusive setting.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership and Vision:
Lead the center in alignment with the institution’s vision and mission, fostering a culture of curiosity, creativity, and inclusivity.
Provide visionary leadership in implementing the Reggio Emilia philosophy, ensuring children’s holistic development and independent thinking.

Program Development:
Work together with fellow teachers to develop and implement a play-based, inquiry-driven classroom experience that responds to children’s interests and curiosity.
Work together with fellow teachers to create an environment that acts as a third teacher, filled with inspiring materials and resources.

Relationship Building:
Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with children, teachers, families, and the community based on trust, respect, and effective communication.
Encourage parent participation and collaboration to enrich the children’s learning experience.

Professional Development:
Support and mentor teachers, fostering a collaborative process that extends children’s thinking and creativity.
Promote ongoing professional development and reflective practices among the staff.

Documentation and Assessment:
Work together with fellow teachers on 33the collection and analysis of documentation to gain a deeper understanding of children’s learning and to inform instructional practices.
Ensure that children’s work is valued, and their learning is made visible to all stakeholders.

Compliance and Safety:
Ensure the center’s compliance with all relevant regulations and maintain a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all children.

Program Management:
Knowledge of Brightwheel for program management.
Work with the NCMC Business Office to manage monthly billing.
Oversee enrollment process, including, but not limited to, facility tours.
Supervise NCMC Student Workers.

Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
An associate’s degree required, bachelor’s degree preferred, in early childhood education, child development, or a related field.
A strong understanding of the Reggio Emilia philosophy, a commitment to its principles, or a willingness to attend Reggio Emilia training and professional development.
Leadership and management experience in early childhood education.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
A passion for fostering holistic child development, inquiry-driven learning, and inclusivity.
A strong understanding of Michigan Child Care Licensing requirements.
