Job Description:

Employment Type: Full-Time

The GSRP Associate Teacher works collaboratively with the GSRP Lead Teacher to provide a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for preschool children. The Associate Teacher supports classroom instruction, child assessment, family engagement, and daily classroom operations while ensuring compliance with Michigan GSRP standards and childcare licensing requirements.

Essential Responsibilities:
• Assist the Lead Teacher in planning and implementing HighScope curriculum and daily learning activities.
• Support children’s social, emotional, cognitive, language, and physical development.
• Supervise children during classroom activities, outdoor play, meals, rest time, and transitions.
• Conduct observations and assist with child assessments and documentation.
• Prepare classroom materials and maintain a clean, organized, and engaging learning environment.
• Build positive relationships with children and families.
• Assist with family engagement activities, conferences, and special events.
• Ensure children’s health, safety, and well-being by following all licensing and GSRP regulations.
• Participate in staff meetings, coaching sessions, and required professional development.
• Maintain confidentiality and accurate classroom records.
• Work collaboratively with the Lead Teacher, Program Director, and support staff to promote kindergarten readiness.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Valid Center-Based Preschool Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential or willingness to obtain upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience working with preschool-aged children.
• Knowledge of the HighScope Curriculum and active learning.
• Experience in a GSRP or state-funded preschool program.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• CPR and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain).

Skills:
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a teaching team.
• Strong organizational and classroom management skills.
• Knowledge of child development and positive behavior guidance.
• Basic computer skills for documentation and communication.

Physical Requirements:
• Ability to sit on the floor, bend, kneel, and actively engage with children throughout the day.
• Participate in indoor and outdoor activities in various weather conditions.
