Job Description:

Overview:
Key teachers are valued as an important part of the team at TDC. The primary responsibility of all key teachers is to plan, implement, and supervise a program of activities for the total development of children in accordance with the philosophy of the school. This includes maintaining an orderly learning environment conducive to the optimal growth and development of children. We rely on our Key Teachers and request two weeks’ notice in the event of resignation.

Qualifications:
Required minimum:
BA in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a closely related field.
Experience in Early Childhood Education.
Ability to relate well to young children and adults.
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds, crouch, crawl, climb stairs, and engage in other physical activities with and in support of children.

Responsibilities:
Work a full-time 40-hour work week unless otherwise arranged and approved by the Director (but must work at least a 35-hour week).
Plan, implement, and supervise a program of activities for the total development of children in accordance with the philosophy of the school.
Maintain an orderly learning environment conducive to the optimal growth and development of children.
Plan activities for individual and group needs.
Set individual professional goals and update as appropriate.
Do self-assessment using the Staff Evaluation Form.
Regularly attend team and staff meeting/planning times.
Establish rapport with children and parents.
Observe children’s participation within the school setting.
Set individual child goals and update as appropriate.
Develop and update written records on individual children for whom they are responsible.
Work with parents toward mutual goals.
Regularly keep parents informed of their child’s daily activities and child’s progress via written notes and informal conversation.
Prepare conference worksheets with input from other team members.
Schedule and lead formal parent conferences a minimum of twice per year.
Follow through on plans developed for and at parent conferences and communicate with parents on the status of goals for their child.
Maintain confidentiality with regard to children and families.
Understand and follow TDC’s policies and procedures, including those in the Employee Handbook and on the TDC website.
Perform other duties as assigned.
