JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Preschool Director
REPORTS TO: Principal

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• One of three qualifications:
Option 1 – Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development and at least 2 semester hours of administration courses
Option 2 – Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in a child related field plus 18 semester hours of Early Childhood plus 480 hours of experience, plus at least two semester hours of administration courses
Option 3 – Child Development Associate Credential with 18 semester hours in Early Childhood Education plus 960 experience hours, plus at least two semester hours of administration courses
• Lives a Christian lifestyle and demonstrates a Christian faith with a clear understanding of Law and Gospel
• Demonstrates a personal commitment to Christ and the teaching ministry of the congregation.
• Keeps the Church and School Mission Statement at the forefront.
• Recognizes spiritual responsibility for the children, their parents, the faculty and staff, the school, and congregation.
• Is poised, punctual, enthusiastic, dependable, loyal, adaptable, and trustworthy.
• Passes a background check.
• Certified in CPR and first aid for small children and adults.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Active member in an LCMS Church

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The preschool director is to ensure that preschool is in compliance with Michigan Department of Children and Family licensing regulations. The director is to assume all the responsibilities that coincides with being a member of the faculty at St. Paul Lutheran School in Royal Oak.

SUPERVISES:
The preschool director is to guide the preschool teacher. He/she is also to ensure that there is effective and clear communication with the teachers and the parents. There is also supervision of all students and any volunteer workers, any student teachers, or paid aids in the preschool program.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Marketing for Preschool and Kindergarten
• Curriculum Development – appropriate for children
• Licensing
• Create assessments to track student progress
• Maintain appropriate student records and files (class lists and record keeping)
• Work with Principal to create and implement policies
• Establish connections between Preschool and the K-8 program
• Establish connections between Preschool and St. Paul Lutheran Church
• Keep track of attendance
• Maintain supplies necessary for the implementation of the program
• Keep abreast of the research and new developments in the field of early childhood education
• Arrange for a substitute teacher when necessary.
• Membership in LEA or NAECY (National Association for the Education of Young Children)

TERMS OF SERVICE:
The position of preschool director may be on a continuing basis, or it may transition into guiding the preschool teacher to take over.

EVALUATION:
The principal will conduct at least one evaluation each school year.
