Lead Preschool Teacher Job Description

Title: Preschool Teacher
Reports To: Preschool Director and Principal

Minimum Qualifications:
• Lives a Christian lifestyle and demonstrates a Christian faith with a clear understanding of Law and Gospel
• Demonstrates a personal commitment to Christ, and the teaching ministry of the congregation
• Keeps the Church and School mission statement at the forefront of their work
• Recognizes spiritual responsibility for the children, their parents, the faculty and staff, the school, and congregation
• Meets state of Michigan requirements to be a lead classroom teacher
• Is poised, punctual, enthusiastic, dependable, loyal, adaptable, and trustworthy
• Passes a background check
• Is certified in CPR and First Aid for small children and adults

Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in a child-related field or associate degree in early childhood education
• Active member in an LCMS church or other Christian church

General Description:
The preschool teacher is to teach class and assume all the responsibilities that coincide with being a member of the faculty at St. Paul Lutheran School in Royal Oak. Supervises: All students and any volunteer workers. Also, the teacher supervises any student teachers or paid aides hired to assist them specifically.

Performance Responsibilities:
• Plan lessons that are developmentally appropriate to the age group
• Upkeep of the classroom – organization, hanging up student work, refreshing bulletin boards, etc.
• Monitor and record student progress
• Communicate student progress to parents
• Attending school events
• Work with the preschool director to establish connections between the preschool and kindergarten through eighth grade school
• Work with the preschool director to establish connections between preschool and St. Paul Lutheran Church
• Attend staff meetings and be an active participant in school and church activities.
• Attain required continuing education hours as required by the state of Michigan regulations

Terms of Service:
The preschool teacher position is one that is renewed each year upon evaluation.

Evaluation:
The preschool director will conduct at least one evaluation each school year. The principal may be part of the evaluation if requested.
