General Overview
The Program Director is responsible for overseeing the overall operations of Playful Scholars, ensuring a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment that supports children’s development through play based learning. This role builds strong relationships with families, supervises staff, ensures compliance with licensing requirements, and supports the growth and success of the school. The Program Director works collaboratively with staff, teachers, and families and assists with additional duties as needed.
Program & Student Oversight
Foster a safe, caring, and creative environment across all classrooms
Oversee classroom operations, daily lessons, and material rotations
Support and monitor student evaluations through ESA
Assist with tornado, fire, and emergency drills
Manage school-wide activities, field trips, and special events
Oversee transitions for the school year to summer programs
Staff & Administrative Responsibilities
Conduct staff evaluations at least twice per year
Lead monthly lead teacher and all-staff meetings
Oversee lesson plans, weekly sheets, and classroom documentation
Ensure Play-Based methodology is implemented consistently
Maintain compliance with state licensing regulations for students and staff
Monitor daily cleaning schedules and classroom readiness
Support new staff onboarding and orientation and assigned check in’s of 14 day, 30 day and 45 days
Family Communication & Engagement
Communicate professionally and consistently with families
Oversee parent communication, including fall welcome letters and school calendar distribution
Support enrollment and registration for new and current students
Childcare sign-up days, and other family engagement activities
Other Duties & Support
Maintain licensing books and documentation
Oversee school communications via Brightwheel
Ensure class ratios meet staffing requirements
Perform additional duties as needed to support school operations
Education (one required)
Child Development Associate (CDA)
Bachelor’s Degree with an education focus
Experience
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in childcare, Montessori, or early childhood education settings
Leadership and staff supervision experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to work independently and adapt to change
Strong organizational, planning, and prioritization skills
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Initiative to build and maintain positive relationships with families and staff
Ability to present feedback and guidance in a positive, professional manner
Knowledge of licensing requirements and early childhood best practices
Mental and Physical Requirements
Ability to read, interpret, and follow instructions and policies
Maintain confidentiality at all times
Problem-solving and decision-making skills
Customer service orientation
Ability to lift and carry children and classroom materials (10–45 lbs.)
Ability to stand, walk, sit, speak, and actively listen for extended periods
Participation in training and professional development
Occasional driving may be required
