BUS DRIVER
Wage: $18.02
Hours: 72+/BI-weekly Pay Period
Supervised by: Transportation Coordinator/Bus Driver
Supervises: Bus Driver Aide
General Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Transportation Coordinator/Bus Driver, transports children daily to and from ECE classes, and to field trips and other events when necessary. Provides for children’s safety while on the bus, and adheres to vehicle safety and maintenance guidelines.
Essential Job Functions:
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the duties which the employee may be expected to perform. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.
1. Transports children daily to and from ECE classes. Provides transportation for field trips and other events when necessary. Operates vehicle communication system and communicates with dispatch.
2. Works with Teacher to plan daily bus routes and field trips. Coordinates activities with central office as required.
3. Performs and maintains record of daily vehicle inspections, insures bus cleanliness, schedules regular vehicle and equipment maintenance, and reports needed repairs.
4. Supervises Bus Aide and assists in enforcing safety procedures and behavioral rules as well as helping children on and off the bus. Train bus aide/substitutes using the training checklist.
5. Ensures that there is an emergency card on file and on the bus for each child and that the information is complete and current.
6. Communicates daily schedule to parents or appropriate caregiver, and acknowledges each child’s safe return.
7. Acts as a liaison between parents and teachers, relaying special requests or needs. Insures that sensitive family information remains confidential.
8. Delivers meals and other supplies to classrooms as required.
9. Performs bus evacuation and fire drills as required by local policy and procedure.
10. Performs other duties as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Minimum Qualifications:

• Educational requirements include a high school education or the equivalent.
• A valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger endorsement is required, as well as the ability to pass mandatory drug tests, annual physical exams and other requirements for maintaining a CDL.
• Thorough knowledge of bus operation techniques, communication systems and appropriate calling procedures.

• Knowledge of bus safety procedures and requirements, and a basic knowledge of first aid procedures.
• Knowledge of vehicle maintenance schedules and procedures.
• Basic knowledge of the techniques used in interacting with children in a positive manner.
• Skill in effectively communicating ideas and concepts.
• Skill in safely operating a bus.
• Ability to observe student behavior and identify and report issues.
• Ability to establish effective working relationships and use good judgement, initiative and resourcefulness when dealing with other employees, students and their families.
• Ability to work effectively under stress and with changes in routes and schedules.
• Ability to travel to other locations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. This position requires complete vision function in order to obtain a CDL. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
